Annotated Image of dust jets 5 of 5
The 7 August 14 OSIRIS image showing the known foreground landmark features that can be used to locate the possible dust jet vents. The image is annotated with three line-of-sight features plus an overhang on the comet head region. This is the best public image of the possible source area of the Polar dust jets and the line-of-sight landmarks point to a well-defined and interesting area on the comet neck. Which, hopefully, will be imaged and released as the area becomes more active.
Dust Jets on 29 September 14
Enhanced OSIRIS montage of Dust Jet activity at a very high phase angle with sunlight forward scattered through the coma. Areas on night side of comet are illuminated by light from the sunlight areas of the comet. Also visible is the ice and dust debris of the coma.
This view of the comet is from the "dark" or Southern-Pole hemisphere of the comet.

OSIRIS image with exposure adjusted to show the faint parts of the dust jets and coma.. This image has been processed to show details of shadow of the comet on the inner coma, the faint outer details of the North Polar Dust Jets and the "winter" dark side of the comet illuminated by reflected light from the comet along with a silhouette on the lower side.

This is crop of the ESA Blog Mosaic image of the 10 Jan 15 Navcam. It is enhanced to show the interplay of sunlight and shadow on the dust present in the "canyon" of the North Polar Plain as well as sunlight streaming through the dust past the jagged edge of the Major Lobe on the upper right. Note also that the lobe is silhouetted against the faint background glow od the coma in the lower right.
